The cable car facility in Rangunia, constructed at a cost of Tk17 crore, has been out of service for two years. The project has remained idle since the incidents of vandalism and looting that occurred on 5 August.
Reports indicate that a significant portion of the machinery at both stations and the control rooms was stolen. Furthermore, the facility sustained extensive damage to its cabin glass, ticket counters, control rooms, and generator rooms.
